    Central Mosque

Welcome to the Central Mosque of Glasgow homepage. The Central Mosque of Glasgow was opened in 1984 on a magnificent site adjacent to the River Clyde.
The story of the building of the Mosque spans a tweleve-year period. The Muslim population of Scotland number some 50,000 and comprises mainly Arabs, Pakistanis, Turks, African, Malayans and Indian Muslims. The mosque also services many foreign students attending Glasgow's pretigious universities and provides a focus for the Muslim community.
The building, which is larger than the Regent Park Mosque in London, is now a landmark of of the city of Glasgow. The mosque recieves many visitors from home and abroad including school parties, organised groups, visiting Muslims and private individuals anxiuos to to see the building and learn more of Islam as a religion and as a social order.
Built on a four-acre site, the present Mosque is shortly to be enhanced by the new Islamic Centre to be erected on an adjacent four-acre site. The new Islamic Centre will contain a general purpose hall, sports and changing facilities, meeting rooms, library. cafeteria and facilities which will offer educational and sociological guidance to the community at a large.
The new centre associated with the Mosque provides a concept that is unique in the west.
